What’s a visit to New York without visiting my good friend, Kenzo Digital, talented filmmaker and straight funny and intelligent. Man I wish I could tell you the range of conversations we had but Kenzo and I were laughing all night long. I had one of the strangest dinner conversations over pho. Looking forward to hanging with you next time Kenzo!
It’s almost Halloween. It’s also getting colder in New York. Met this morning with Lanie (Hellz) and Val (Epiphany) to have a meeting. Big things for Hellz to come soon!
Later met with the rest of the Epiphany crew for their office Halloween party. Coltrane is a class act yet he is comfortable in acting the clown as well. The rest of the team followed suit. Literally.
Of course the highlight of the night was Ashley (Epiphany) getting her Michael Jackson on. She was channeling the King of Pop deep! HA!
I walked around today to connect with a few folks around town. Getting around New York in the train is fun…well unless it rains. It’s not so much the train itself but rather the walk in between to get to places. On this particular day it was raining pretty hard. I was drenched each and every time I was walking to an area.
Connected with David (Kangol) for a few hours and shared a lively conversation as always. David is deliberate when he speaks and he has a dry wit and humor about him. I found out that David knew about Orange Recordings and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. funny thing since Orange Recordings was the first place I’ve ever interned for and it was rad that David knew of the label. In fact it was working for Orange, which gave me the added confidence to decide to start something independent for myself. Evil Monito has much to thank towards Orange for that. And of course it makes it all the more stranger that later I would work with Kangol on a project. Worlds seems to collide on subconscious levels all the time!
Later rolled to the Epiphany office and connected with Sky and Ricky. Plotting something interesting…
Dinner was with friends then a nice stroll home. Yes in the rain.
Downtown is a strange place with strange and fascinating characters. I met Eagle, the man and his pet parrot, Aristotle. I really liked Eagle’s classy outfit and Aristotle was equally well composed.
John came all the way from the Philippines to visit LA and catch up with a few folks. John along with his siblings, aka the Herrera Clan are running the PI with their Status media empire. Pete (Cassette) later rolled by and we all kicked it for a few.
A few months ago, Status was so kind to feature yours truly. I never did get a physical copy of the mag so I was happy to get it hand delivered from John himself! Thanks again John for coming by and let’s try to work on something fun together soon! Oh here’s a link of a lil snippet from the piece - http://statusmagonline.com/news/mr-kims-thinks-its-possible/
