When it comes to arm liposuction the procedure is a little more invasive than some other kinds because there are two arms to be done, not just one site. And because your arms move around a lot more than your torso, you need to take extra care of them after the surgery. Even though the cuts made for this procedure are tiny, they are still cuts and so need to be attended to carefully.
It is not only a matter of healing the cuts either. Remember that a lot of fatty cells have been removed through those tiny cuts. This removal will cause some blood loss and there is likely to be leakage of fluid and blood from the cuts until they heal. This is a good thing because the fluid and blood are now waste products and need to be removed. Those cuts can’t be stitched up; if they are, the waste will be kept trapped under the skin.
You can expect to have more bruising and swelling on your arms. Arms are thin compared with the torso and thighs, so any swelling will be more noticeable. While you will most likely be able to return to work within a few days, it will be essential to wear a compression garment to reduce the swelling and ensure the arms return to a good shape. This may need to be worn for several weeks to ensure the best result. As well as some pain, you might also experience –
- Numbness
- Tingling
- Burning
- Milder discomfort
- Tenderness
The pain can easily be managed with over the counter pain killers, so long as they are not blood thinners. They will also help the burning sensation, although this is not likely to be very bad. You can expect to also see some bruising in the area, since any blood that does not escape will appear as a bruise. Don’t be concerned because it will gradually fade like any other bruise does.
Once the liposuction is done, your doctor or health care professional will give you more instructions on how to care for it afterwards. This will vary depending on where exactly on the arms the treatment was given and how large an area was done. It is most often on the upper arms at the back or inside of the arm that treatment is given.
As you may know, it is important to choose a healthy diet and lifestyle afterwards so you don’t put on more weight after the liposuction. If you do, it won’t go back on in the area where the treatment was given, but in a different place, such as the thighs or torso. Since you don’t want this to happen, keeping off sugar and other calories is a good plan.
