July 31st, 2009-Fri My Life:

Well sorta. I’m in New York so I’m 29 here but not quite according to PST. 28 was a rough one for me. How fitting that it was also the day I turned 28 last year when I started my gig at 944 which was an “interesting” experience at best. I was clearly at a crossroads in my life and I went for the challenge. New rule I’m putting on myself starting with 29. I’m no longer going to put myself through unnecessary obstacles. I am going to embrace what comes fluid. Working now with the Epiphany Fam “feels” natural. Nothing out of the ordinary, rather it’s something I look at as “extra”ordinary. I’m a journalist by trade and a helpless romantic in my core, my writing skill sets are embedded with my telling of personal stories of lore and sometimes imagined fiction. I suppose this allows me to look into my vulnerable self and take a particular excruciatingly harsh look within. I sometimes have moments where I smirk or laugh out loud to no one in the room but to me. I’m working out the kinks of this adolescent period and am still attempting to figure out what this adult thing is all about. Thank you to all my dear friends that have been ever so patient with this stubborn and at times, difficult person. Please bear with me. I assure you that I’m still a work in progress. Now where’s that shot of whiskey…

Epiphany Media has been producing Summer Fridays events in New York consecutively for the past 4 weeks. Fresh from doing two Los Angeles events, I had a chance to witness Epiphany handle the Summer Friday with Nylon magazine today.

First came the prep work:

More prep:

Once the doors opened, the crowd began flooding in. It was raining hot rain outside yet there was constant movement inside. We had a sample sale with select brands, a runway show, open bar and catering. This went on an on an on…I bumped into a lot of familiar faces.

Take a look of the fashion show we had:

You know when an event goes off when you start having voguing going off on the runway:

The day ended sooner than I thought. Ricky and Dee stopped by as Coltrane imparted some wisdom on the youngins.

Oh say hello to Marquis (Late Boots), star intern at Epiphany. Why can’t people all dress like this? New York once again thank you for showing us so much love and making today’s Sobe Summer Friday a success!!!

July 30th, 2009-Thu Events, My Life:

I know some of you have seen the trailer of “City of God’s Son” around the web. Tonight I had a chance to take in the screening in Chelsea. Kenzo is a gentle fellow and an amazing artist. Some of you might know Nam June Paik, Kenzo is Paik’s grand nephew. And carrying on in the grand tradition of experimental film, Kenzo provided a forum that I experienced none other before. I watched this film along with a hundred or so people in a dark basement that was converted into a movie theatre. On each seat was placed a set of state of art headsets and a sleeping mask. Kenzo gave a brief intro speech the the film began. We watched the 5 minute intro then was asked to put on our sleeping masks. What occured next was a pure audio journey. Kenzo remixed and created a narrative involving Nas, Raekwon, Jay-Z, Biggie, Samuel L. Jackson as well as Scarface among others. He weaved these characters together in creating a fictional yet credible world purely living within its soundscape. Incredible! Tonight I am inspired!!!

I am humbled by New York each and everytime I visit this place. The towers rise to no end. I’m staying with Sky (Epiphany Media) while I’m out here. He recently got a new ride, a Benzo G-Wagon to be exact. He likes to drive around the streets of New York and listen to rap music really loud. He’s a beast. Then again, you’re only a young professional once in your life right?

I landed in NY and it was hot. Lucky me, before I took off I called Pete (Cassette) and copped a pair of shorts (above the knee joints, you know to get my extra sexy grown man on). Humidity was everywhere here.  I decided to go for a walk. I ended up walking to The Eldridge to meet with Josh. The night ended at Veselka, one of my favorite night spots.

One of the my favorite brands. Undercover is dark, complex and relentless in their vision. Jun Takahashi understands fashion and retains a deep rooted philosophy in his take on story telling. Take a look behind the scenes at the Pitti Immagine fashion trade show in Florence, Italy.

As you guys might know I’m working at Epiphany these days. The company is a small but robust team. The last week alone, we produced a few events and each and every time I didn’t have a chance to really  take pics since I was busy and I also lost my camera. Anyhow I finally had a chance to get a new one (Thx Coltrane), so here’s a few pics of the recent TAG event we produced. The air gets kinda hectic and tense before each event but I think we executed rather well. Special thanks to all those in the LA fam that attended, you know who you are. I’m heading to NY morrow to tend to some events we have to take care of here. Word.
